Hey Elliot - come back to DC when you are ready. The scene is ready for you, and there's lots of new spots where guys over 40 (including me) can go. I've skated on and off here since the 1980s, so I know what you mean feeling unwelcome. It's better now.
Beautifully written Mr. Caramanica. I label Miss Swift as a Bob Dylan without the pain of Vietnam--they both are about expression more than tone. She is thinking about the world, but is not ready to tell anyone more than what her pop audience is ready to hear. And you get the feeling she will have the same ups and downs as a daughter we might have brought up, which is refreshing and reassuring.
An incredibly destructive law will continue for 2 years so that the Republicans can get at the levers of power, with a Congress ready to pass legislation and a President ready to sign it.Then they'll ignore Obamacare and ban abortion.Want to lay odds on that?
Now is the time to use this potential wealth to start dscussing peace, with all parties, including the Taliban. I am sure that even the Taliban will be ready to stop fighting so that everybody will profit from that wealth. I am sure also that China is ready to cooperate with the US, provided that the latter is ready to share for the good of all. This wealth could be for better or for worse, depending on how we are able to cooperate with others.
There is a lot of gray in the Middle East. We see stormy clouds on the horizon, but the sky is not falling.Continue to proceed with caution Mr. President. When you are ready, you will have a nation fully committed ready and willing to do what is right and just.Over reacting leads to mistakes that create long lasting problems. We have time to get this mess on track. But we need not do it alone.
What say you consumer advocates? Champions of the poor and downtrodden? Ardent supporters of American Union Labor?Ready to put down that iPhone? Ready to retire that iPad?I didn't think so. WR29
The question for Sen. McConnell and all of our representatives in Congress is whether they are ready to pay for our military activities with increased revenues. We cannot have fiscal discipline only for domestic programs. Rather, as a new program, our involvement should be paid for, possibly by a temporary income tax surcharge. I think some level of involvement is needed, but the public has to be ready to pay for it,
Getting the population ready for what? You and I are going to die. Everything including life is not subject to a cure. If people don't know that, we should all ask why, and yes help them get ready.
No, actually most of us are not sociopaths, nor are we ready to make up "reasons" that a readiness and quick ability to kill are our national character or destiny. The battle between those of us who think ourselves ready for such a dystopia and those who refuse it is the issue today. Read the comments for apt rebuttals of your other points, please.
