Tracy Porter Out Of Business

When listening to the Terry Gross interview did any one else that you were listening to Tracy Flick (played by Hillary Clinton rather than Reese Witherspoon) from the movie Election? I swore it was Tracy.

I am curious why Porter the Business Owner needs government to mandate an hourly wage increase? Why can't Porter be progressive and increase the hourly wage for his/her employees? Porter does not need to wait for the government to implement this livable wage,be specially since Porter is so much more knowledgeable than the rest of us and recognizes his/her employees hardships. Why wait for the government? I love how NYT gave this a goldstar...instead of asking a commonsensical/logical question - why not be generous to your employees instead of waiting for the government to mandate it. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what is wrong with our society. Wait for the government to fix what is wrong when Porter has the ability to correct an injustice amongst his/her own employees.

How about we ask Tracy Morgan for his thoughts on the subject?

@Tracy: You must be a nurse. That's what doctors want the most, I think. Compliance.

Michael Porter, Clay Christensen, Ted Levitt, etc. are at business schools and their perspectives are very different from economists who are usually part of social science departments. It's the difference between metaphysical pontificating and actually producing a product or service that somebody is willing to pay for.

IF any of this is true it is because of the cost of Health Care in America. When will people realize that only competition will lower Health Care costs? Why did the govt. pay Michael Porter the Harvard Business Guru of the century to do a study on the costs of Healthcare only to ignore his results. Porter's study states that only competition will bring down costs. The govt. needs to get out of it. Subsidize seniors to buy their own insurance then let insurances compete for their business. Then you will see costs go way down. It isn't rocket science its called economics. Democrats wake up.

"Value Chain"

Isn't that a Michael Porter term?

Glad to see Paul is reading the Harvard Business Review. So much more useful than those economic journals with all those meaningless equations.

Also, a little credit to Ronald Reagan for showing the world that socialism does not work.
